Silicone Rubber:

The core of composite insulators typically uses materials such as epoxy resin fiberglass pultruded rods, epoxy resin fiberglass wound tubes, porcelain, and resin. The core is the inner insulating component and also bears the mechanical functions (tension, bending, torsion, compression). For hollow insulators, the core also serves as a container for high-voltage electrical products.

The sheaths of composite insulators use materials such as silicone rubber, EPDM rubber, resin, and PTFE. However, silicone rubber is commonly used. The sheaths are the outer insulating component, providing necessary creepage distances and protecting the core from external environmental factors and electrolytic corrosion.

Porcelain, glass, and composite insulators differ in their structures and the functions their materials perform. Porcelain and glass insulators are structures using a single insulating material, with both mechanical and electrical functions handled by that material. Composite insulators, on the other hand, distribute these functions among different materials, allowing each material to perform its optimal function.
