A double tension polymer insulator string is designed to withstand significant tensile forces from conductors, especially at dead-ends or sharp angles in transmission lines. this tension polymer insulator must possess both high mechanical strength and excellent insulating properties. Electrical Insulator fittings are auxiliary components used in conjunction with power insulators to ensure proper installation and performance.
According to the different connection ways, there are four types of insulator string, single tension string, double tension string, single suspension string, double suspension string
What is the insulator string?
A composite insulator string is specifically designed to withstand the high tensile forces exerted by conductors at dead-end locations and sharp angles on transmission lines. Compared with traditional porcelain or glass strings, composite insulator strings offer a lighter weight, higher mechanical strength-to-weight ratio, and excellent resistance to pollution and environmental aging.
Each composite insulator string must provide sufficient mechanical strength to support the conductor safely under both normal operation and extreme weather conditions, while also ensuring a high level of electrical insulation to prevent flashover. The string is usually composed of several individual composite long-rod insulators assembled together according to the required mechanical load and insulation level.
Insulator fittings refer to the various metal components that are used together with composite insulator strings, such as end fittings, yoke plates, clevises, ball-and-socket connectors, and tension clamps. These fittings play an essential role in connecting the insulators to the tower hardware and conductors, ensuring secure mechanical linkage, proper alignment, and reliable performance throughout the insulator's service life.
Application
What's the suspension insulator string ?
Suspended insulator strings are only applicable to straight towers (or the jumpers of tension towers). Figure 2-7 shows a single-string suspended insulator string. Under normal operation, it only bears the vertical load of the conductor and the wind load. In the event of a conductor breakage, it has to withstand the breaking tension of the conductor. Therefore, the suspended insulator string must meet both of these conditions.
Due to the difference in vertical loads, each phase of the suspended insulator string may be assembled in different forms such as single-string, double-string or multi-string. The diagram of a single-string suspended insulator string is shown in Figure 2-7.
There are many advantages to using a single-string insulator string:
① fewer fittings and insulators are required, thus reducing costs;
② the corresponding breakage rate is also lower, and the costs for replacement, maintenance and inspection are also reduced;
③ since the flashover probability is directly proportional to the number of insulators and the number of strings, reducing the number of insulators also lowers the flashover probability.
However, once a broken insulator appears in a single-string insulator string, its reliability is relatively low. Generally, double-string or multi-string insulator strings are used in larger spans, more severe stress conditions, and important crossings. The assembly diagram of a double-string insulator string is shown in Figure 2-8. Using double-string insulator strings will increase the string length and reduce the height of the tower by 0.3 to 1 meter. Therefore, single-string suspended insulator strings, as shown in Figure 2-7, are generally adopted. Only when the vertical load is large and the strength of a single string cannot meet the requirements, or in important crossings, is it necessary to use double-string or multi-string insulator strings. Sometimes, in mountainous areas, when the suspension angle cannot meet the requirements, double-string double-line clamps are used.
