Composite Pin Insulator
Introduction

The pin-type composite insulator is composed of an epoxy fiberglass rod as the core and silicone rubber as the basic insulator. The mechanical strength of the epoxy fiberglass rod is considerably high, being 1.6 to 2.0 times that of ordinary steel and 3 to 5 times that of high-strength porcelain. The pin-type synthetic insulator series is specifically developed for 10kV overhead distribution lines, consisting of three main components: a glass fiber epoxy resin pultruded rod, silicone rubber sheds, and metal fittings.

Key Features of Silicone Rubber in Polymer Insulators:
The shed material is entirely made of high-temperature silicone rubber, which offers better hydrophobicity and aging resistance compared to earlier materials like epoxy resin, EPDM rubber, and room-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber. As a result, it has strong resistance to pollution flashover. Currently, the rubber compound formulation has been further optimized, with the aluminum hydroxide powder in the formulation undergoing an activation treatment to significantly enhance its hydrophobic properties. For high-end products, the silicone used is produced with imported D4 monomer, further improving its anti-aging performance.

Fiberglass Core
In the epoxy fiberglass that makes up the core rod, the glass fibers are arranged parallel along the axis, forming the structural framework. Epoxy resin serves as the matrix material, bonding the glass fibers into a cohesive unit, thereby creating the epoxy fiberglass pultruded rod. The tensile strength of the epoxy fiberglass pultruded rod can reach up to 2.5 times that of ordinary carbon steel.
Core Rod Grinding, Cleaning, and Drying: The fiberglass core rod is ground to ensure that its surface can fully contact the adhesive. The core rod is then cleaned to remove surface dust particles, as these particles can lead to poor adhesion, potentially causing internal discharge defects in the operational composite insulator. After cleaning, the core rod must be promptly dried to prevent moisture absorption.

End Fitting
The connection structure between the core rod and the metal fittings has evolved from earlier designs, such as internal wedges, external wedges, and adhesive bonding, to a comprehensive crimping structure. This new structure ensures that the connection strength between the metal fittings and the core rod is highly stable with minimal variability.
