Wuhan Line Power recently welcomed a customer from Peru to our factory for the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of composite insulators. The FAT was successfully completed in accordance with the applicable project requirements.
Customer Witnessed Testing at Our Factory
During the visit, the customer joined our team at the factory to witness the inspection and testing of the composite insulators.
The FAT included multiple inspection and testing activities to verify the products against the relevant technical requirements. Our team worked closely with the customer throughout the process, providing technical support and assisting with the required checks.
Verification of dimensions
In accordance with IEC 61109, Clause 12.2, and ANSI C29.12, Clause 10.1, the composite insulators undergo dimensional measurement and inspection to verify their key structural parameters against the specified requirements.
The inspection covers dry arcing distance, creepage distance, shed diameters, spacing between sheds, and housing thickness over the core. Multiple insulator samples are measured and recorded to assess dimensional consistency and compliance with the applicable technical specifications.
This inspection helps verify the dimensional accuracy and manufacturing consistency of composite insulators, supporting reliable product quality and conformity with relevant standards.
Verification of the end fittings
In accordance with IEC 61109, Clause 12.3, and ANSI C29.12, Clause 10.1, the end fittings of composite insulators are inspected to verify their dimensional conformity.
The inspection focuses on the clevis dimensions (Ø19 ± 2.26 mm and 20 ± 2.3 mm) and the Ball-16 connection interface in accordance with IEC 60120. These measurements help verify the compatibility of the end fittings with the specified connection requirements and ensure dimensional accuracy during manufacturing.

Verification of tightness of the interface between end fittings and insulator housing
The test is performed in accordance with clause 12.4 of IEC 61109, to verify the mechanical integrity of the connection between insulator core rod and end fittings.
No failure occurs during the 1-minute withstand test under 70% rated load: no core breakage, no full pull-out of core rod, no fracture of metal fittings.
No cracks shall be found by dye penetration inspection after the test.
Electrical test
The full set of electrical tests are carried out per ANSI/NEMA C29.11-2020 North American standard. It evaluates the insulation performance of composite insulators under dry, wet and lightning impulse conditions, to verify resistance against power-frequency voltage and lightning overvoltage.
Low-Frequency Dry Flashover Test
Tested under dry condition, sample No.3, test voltage ≥302kV. Requirement: No puncture.
It verifies the external insulation strength of insulator in sunny dry environment.
Low-Frequency Wet Flashover Test
Simulating rainy condition, sample No.3, test voltage ≥272kV. Requirement: No puncture.
Validates reliable insulation performance during rainfall to prevent line flashover.
Critical Impulse Flashover Voltage (Positive Polarity)
Simulates positive lightning surge, sample No.3, test voltage ≥325kV. Requirement: No puncture.
Critical Impulse Flashover Voltage (Negative Polarity)
Simulates negative lightning surge, sample No.3, test voltage ≥365kV. Requirement: No puncture.
