Key Points of the Conference
From December 17 to 18, 2021, the EPTC Insulator Expert Working Committee organized a composite insulator technology exchange meeting in Beijing Guidu Hotel. Participants conducted in-depth exchanges on the main common issues existing in the manufacturing and operation of the composite insulator industry, and discussed the research direction of long-life composite insulators. The minutes of the meeting were as follows:
(1) The operating status statistics of composite insulators should be divided into three levels: UHV, EHV (330kV~750kV) and other voltage levels.
(2) String disconnection caused by aging of the umbrella sheath and interface defects are the two main common problems faced by composite insulators, but they cannot be used as a basis for mass replacement of insulators. Umbrella skirt and sheath formula adjustment and rubber mixing process improvement are the main measures to solve the aging of umbrella skirt sheath; the quality control of sheath raw materials, the improvement of coupling agent and its coating process are the main measures to eliminate interface defects.
(3) On the basis of versatility, the formula for the umbrella cover of the composite insulator is developed for the special operating environment.
(4) The life cycle assessment of composite insulators is an important reference basis for operation and maintenance, and random inspections should be carried out regularly.
(5) In order to ensure quality consistency, the key production process of composite insulators should reduce human intervention and achieve automation.
(6) The meeting also discussed the research content of recent industry-university-research research:
a) Realize the optimization of composite insulator formula by adjusting the ATH content;
b) Application research of self-healing materials in composite insulators;
c) Using cycloaliphatic epoxy resin to improve the interface performance of composite insulators.
