End (Metal) Fittings: End fittings are what we commonly refer to as hardware; they connect to a supporting structure, conductor, equipment, or another insulator.

Core Rod: The core rod is the inner insulating component of a composite insulator, designed to ensure its mechanical properties. Core rods are typically made of glass fiber impregnated with resin.

Umbrella Sheaths and Skirts: Umbrella sheaths and skirts are collectively called umbrella sheaths; they are the outer insulating components of the insulator, used to provide necessary creepage distances and protect the core rod from weather conditions.

Equalizing Ring: The equalizing ring improves the electric field distribution and also serves to initiate arcing, prevent hardware corona discharge, and delay core rod aging. Flashover discharges occurring on the line occur between the two rings, protecting the skirt surface from being burned.

Flat Weight: The flat weight increases the weight of the insulator in use on the line to prevent excessive insulator sway. It is generally used at the high-voltage end of products with voltage levels of 220kV and below.
