Are all substations high-voltage?

There are three fundamental types of substations: Transmission substations (high voltage), which link the power generation sources to regions receiving electricity. Sub-transmission substations (medium voltage) - these link transmission lines within the same region together.

 

400kV refers to 400 kilovolts (400,000 volts), an ultra-high voltage level used in power systems for long-distance, high-capacity power transmission.

DC Transmission: In China, ±400kV specifically refers to the voltage level of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission, a typical example being the Qinghai-Tibet power grid interconnection project (Chaila DC system), used to solve the challenges of high-altitude, long-distance power transmission.

Equipment Identification: Commonly found on the design rated voltage of 400kV substations, converter stations, and transmission lines. Special Note: The mainstream AC transmission levels in China are 500kV and 750kV; there is no standard 400kV AC level.
