Products Description
Glass insulators are electrical insulation devices used in overhead transmission and distribution lines. They utilize the high resistivity and high dielectric strength of glass to prevent current flow, while the shed structure increases the creepage distance, improving protection against flashover. Their main functions are: supporting the conductors, electrically isolating them from the towers or crossarms, and preventing current leakage to the grounding structure. Glass insulators are a traditional, mature, and reliable transmission line insulation product, widely used in transmission lines worldwide, and still holding a significant market share, especially in medium and high voltage lines.
Glass insulators are manufactured at high temperatures by melting and blending raw materials such as quartz sand and lime. The molten glass is then poured into a mold and rapidly cooled in a controlled process known as toughening. This rapid cooling creates internal compressive stresses that significantly increase the mechanical strength of the glass. As a result, a toughened glass insulator is formed.
HTV (High Temperature Vulcanized) silicone rubber coating is primarily used to improve the operational performance of glass insulators in harsh environments, especially in heavily polluted or humid areas.
