The shed structure of rod-shaped post insulators and rod-shaped suspension insulators is similar, without much change, and can be roughly divided into three categories: ordinary type, large and small umbrella type, and ribbed type under the umbrella. Three umbrella structures of rod insulators are shown in Figure 1.10. The distance between the two large umbrellas of the large and small umbrella-shaped rod insulators is relatively large, and it is not easy to bridge between the two large umbrellas, so the performance of rain flash resistance and ice and snow resistance is better. The lower surface of the umbrella insulators of ordinary shape and large and small umbrellas can be made with ribs. The ribbed structure on the lower surface of the umbrella can increase the leakage distance and have a higher pollution flashover voltage. The composite insulator is also a long rod-shaped structure, and the skirt structure has two forms: equal diameter and large and small umbrellas, but the upper and lower surfaces of the shed of the composite insulator are smooth, and the lower surface of the umbrella has no grooves.
