A grading ring is a component used in power grids. Its primary purpose is to equalize voltage in AC circuits, ensuring high voltage is evenly distributed around the object and eliminating potential differences between different points on the ring, thereby achieving a voltage equalizing effect. Currently, circuit faults and trip-outs mainly occur at the grading ring. The primary reason for this issue is that the current design of the grading ring is hollow. Bird droppings can pass through the hollow grading ring and fall onto the insulator located below it, which is a significant cause of line trip-outs.

The anti-bird grading ring is installed on the metal fitting above an insulator string. Its key feature is that it includes a set of grading ring bodies. These bodies are connected by connecting components and stacked in a tower-like structure. There is a gap between adjacent grading ring bodies, with the inner edge of each grading ring body overlapping with the outer edge of the one above it. The topmost grading ring body has a fixed end in the shape of a boss that fits against the metal fitting, while the inner edges of the grading ring bodies below the top layer are equipped with circular retaining rings.

 

The grading ring bodies are designed with an umbrella-like structure, where the angle 𝛼α between the upper surface of the grading ring body and the horizontal plane is 0<𝛼≤5∘0<α5.

 

The outer side of the bottommost grading ring body is equipped with insulating skirts.

The height 𝐻H of the gaps between the grading ring bodies is 5-15mm.

The connecting components include a connecting tube at the lower end of a grading ring body and a connecting post at the upper end of the grading ring body below it. The connecting post of the lower grading ring body fits into the connecting tube of the upper grading ring body. The connecting post is hollow, with a V-shaped spring clip inside it. This clip has a protrusion that fits into matching slots on the connecting post and connecting tube, securely connecting them.

The fixed end consists of two semicircular rings, with inclined upper surfaces that fit against the metal fitting.

  1. The fixed end of the topmost grading ring body fits snugly against the metal fitting, and the circular retaining rings below prevent bird droppings from flowing onto the insulator.
