What is a cut out fuse?

In electrical distribution systems, a fuse cutout (also called a cut-out fuse or simply a cutout) combines the functions of a fuse and a switch. It is typically installed on primary overhead feeder lines and branch connections to safeguard distribution transformers against overloads and surge currents.

Fuses are divided into composite fuses and porcelain fuses according to their materials. Traditional circuit fuses are more commonly used. As the advantages of silicone rubber become more and more obvious, more circuits tend to use composite fuses. One advantage is that they are relatively light and easy to install. Another is that silicone rubber is hydrophobic, which makes them more durable in polluted areas, easy to clean, and convenient for subsequent maintenance, saving long-term costs.
