Composite insulators are made of epoxy glass fiber rods with core rods and silicone rubber as the basic insulator. The mechanical strength of epoxy glass fiber rods is quite high, 1.6 to 2.0 times that of ordinary steel, and 3 to 5 times that of high-strength porcelain. The three-layer silicone rubber insulated umbrella skirt has good anti-fouling and flashover performance, and will not have cracks, damage, enamel falling off and other common phenomena of ordinary ceramic insulators. Because the diameter of the silicone rubber insulated umbrella skirt in the middle layer is smaller than that of the upper and lower layers, the upper and lower layers of insulated umbrella skirt will not form a continuous conductive film, so there will be no leakage current thermal effect, so it is difficult to cause insulator flashover.

When the needle composite insulator is struck by lightning, the silicone rubber insulated umbrella skirt will not break, and there is obvious burning trace, easy to be found by the line inspection personnel. After conducting a comprehensive electrical test on the needle composite insulator, and when the number of submerged needle composite insulator is small, dry flashing, wet flashing and voltage resistance tests meet the requirements.
